Atolla Rescue - Meta Quest 3 VR Experience

Atolla Rescue is an educational-entertaining VR experience created to be a potential exhibit at the Senckenberg Museum aimed to educate people 12-20 years old about Atolla Jellyfish.

In this immersive experience, you act as a marine biologist on his first day at work. After completing the onboarding process with the help of the submarine’s AI, you will encounter a poor, damaged Atolla Jellyfish, and your mission will be to deliver it to its natural habitat. On your way there you will witness the vast ocean environment as well as learn all of the jellyfish’s special abilities, food ration, and more interesting facts about it and its environment in a fun and entertaining way.

One of the main goals of this project was to close the gap between younger audiences and the museum by using VR technologies. The biggest advantage of using VR in this experience was the ability to create a powerful emotional connection and as a result, an emotional response, which leaves a good lasting impression and improves the learning abilities of the target user. By using these advantages, we could bridge digital entertainment and education in a single package, where the user learns all of the facts about the jellyfish without needing to read a single word or specifically focus on learning those facts about it.

Additionally, as our experience was targeted at people of young age, our team decided to use only the simplest interactions (such as pushing a button, pulling a lever), as well as remove player movement entirely, instead opting for controlling the submarine’s movement.

The project was created by a team of 5 people over 4 months (1.5 months for production, 2.5 months for research, ideation, and concept).
